The 2013 PBA Draft is about to come and there are lots of applicants that really want to join the PBA Rookie Draft this year. The said draft will be on November 3, 2013 at Robinson’s Place Ermita in Manila. After searching the names of those players that could possibly join the rookie draft this year, I saw some aspirants that I know have the potential to become a star player and can be a part of Ginebra’s rotation. Because of their skills and basketball IQ I believe they are fit and perfect to play for the Barangay Ginebra. Here, I’ve listed the 5 new aspirants that I probably like to see playing and wearing the Barangay Ginebra jersey.

5 New PBA Rookie Drafts I Wish to See Wearing the Jersey of the Barangay Ginebra:

1.  Greg Slaughter

PBA Draft - Greg Slaughter

Height: 7 foot 0
Position: C
School: Ateneo de Manila

Obviously, Barangay Ginebra needs a big man who is dominant in getting rebounds and this prospect who averages 9.57 in rebounds in the UAAP can be a solid rebounder for the team. Slaughter is not just a big on the boards but he can actually make a lot of shots and has a good free throw shooting. The young 7’0 center from Ateneo is also the leading shot blocker during his college days and he knows how to use his height to his advantage.

2. Ian Sangalang

PBA Draft - Ian Sangalang

Height: 6’7
Position: Power Forward
School: San Sebastian College

Another big man, this time from San Sebastian College has already announced his interest to play with the most popular ball club in the Philippines, the Barangay Ginebra. The current NCAA MVP can really move around the basket and as a big man as proven in his dominance in getting rebounds averaging 11.5 caroms per outing. I can say that he is a big plus for the Ginebra and I can see a lot of potential for a player who can be a constant double-double threat for the Barangay.

3. Ray Parks Jr.

PBA Draft - Ray Parks Jr.

Height: 6’4
Position: Guard
School: National University

The son of the 7-Time Best Import Bobby Ray Parks Sr. who has been playing for the National University is the reigning League MVP in the UAAP. The scoring king averaged 20.5 points last year and I can say that he is a gifted player with a high basketball IQ. Ray is very talented as he possesses a good jump-shot plus very strong defensively as well. His size and speed is one of a kind and the Gin fans will surely love to see him playing in Ginebra.

4. Justin Melton

PBA Draft - Justin Melton

Height: 5’11
Position: Guard
School: Mount Olive College

Another quick guard for the Kings from KL Dragons Malaysia in ABL, his quickness and shooting beyond the arc are just two of his assets in playing basketball. Don’t dare to dribble in front of him because this guy can really steal the ball and go all the way back for a facial dunk despite of his height. He is perfect for the Barangay Ginebra’s run and gun.

Wanna see him dunking? here’s a video…

And lastly…..

5. Niko Salva

PBA Draft - Nico Salva

Height: 6’3
Position: Small Forward
School: Ateneo De Manila U

A former Katipunan based player and the reigning UAAP Finals MVP. A versatile player from ADMU that won 5 championships during his basketball career in college, he can drive and shoot from the mid-range. He can help Ginebra in terms of his offense and defense. Nico is another player that can really shoot from the field averaging 14 points per game and also a great 1 on 1 defender.

Seeing any of them wearing a Barangay Ginebra jersey is a dream come true because these players are really great and I know what they can contribute to the team. I know it’s impossible to see all of them playing together in Ginebra but we’ll never know, maybe someday we will see all of them playing together for the most popular ball club in the league and that will be an exciting time for the franchise.

UAAP players back in 2005 averages 5’11 tall.

Local basketball league has involved a lot. Seeing a 7ft tall rookies and 6’3 small forwards are just new to me.
