Scottie Thompson took center-stage during Game 5 of the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals and promised to keep his tenacity as his Gin Kings are looking to end the championship series tonight and take home the PBA’s second conference precious gem.
Barangay Ginebra was down by five points in the fourth quarter with merely three minutes remaining last Sunday evening. Coach Tim Cone found an answer from Scottie Thompson as the best rebounding guard scored six points to take back the lead and seal Game 5, 87-83.
It’s usual to see Scottie to log double-digit in rebounding as he clean the boards 11 times but surprisingly he also logged 20 points. Nine of those points came from beyond the arc as he go 3-of-5 from the rainbow territory.
“No expectations para sa akin. Sa akin, expect niyo ako na maging aggressive,” Thompson told reporters inside the press room after Ginebra took a 3-2 lead in the Finals.
The high-leaping Gin King demonstrated his jumping skills against the towering presence of June Mar Fajardo as he made a dunk attempt. Fajardo ended up with a defensive foul and sent Thompson to the charity stripe.
Shooting under pressure, Thompson had no problem converting his free-throw attempts and gave Ginebra the needed advantage to have the winning assurance.
“Sobrang lucky lang kasi yung defense namin talagang grind,” he said “Yung mga shoot ko sa bandang huli, I think lucky shot na lang mga yun.”
“But we really needed this game, gusto naming ipanalo to so thankfully, nagawa namin,” added Thompson.
