The PBA Commissioner’s office has just released the full 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup schedule and it was published via their official twitter account.
Most likely this is no longer a surprise but Justin Brownlee will return to Barangay Ginebra camp and will help the Gin Kings defend their championship crown.
Brownlee was expected to suit up with Ginebra this third conference but his call-up went early after the Commissioner’s Cup campaign of team NSD was in peril.
With Charles Garcia, the Gin Kings only won a single game and struggled to make more victories as their previous import had some hard time adjusting to Ginebra’s offensive strategy.
When Brownlee suit up after his sting with the San Miguel Alab Pilipinas, a new chapter of Ginebra story was told.
After struggling with 1-5 in the elimination round, Barangay Ginebra went straight to the Finals. They meet their sister-team the San Miguel Beermen and won the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup trophy.
Brownlee was named as the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Best Import while Scottie Thompson took home the Finals MVP.
With the core lineup of Ginebra are all coming back plus the new addition of Jeff Chan odds are on their side.
On the other hand, their last conference arch nemesis the Meralco Bolts are bringing back the 2017 and 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup Best Import Allen Durham. The Gin Kings and Bolts will make their rematch on October 7, 2018.
For the Beermen, it’s expected that coach Leo Austria and his entire squad are looking for a payback after they got dethroned in Commissioner’s Cup. They will battle Ginebra on September 23, 2018.
One of the surprising trade this year is between Alaska Aces and the Phoenix Fuel Masters. Team NSD will meet Calvin Abueva along with his new friends in Phoenix on September 29, 2018.
Likewise, there’s a new team on the block and they’re called the North Port Batang Pier. Actually, they’re not that really new as they were called before as the GlobalPort Batang Pier. Now that Terrence Romeo is no longer a Batang Pier, coach Pido Jarencio and his entire squad needed a new identity as the team will now be bannered by Stanley Pringle. Gin Kings will battle North Port Batang Pier on September 5, 2018.
Lastly, one of the most anticipated event during the eliminations round in any PBA conference is the “Manila Classico”. They will renew their rivalry on October 28, 2018. Will Ginebra continue its winning streak or Magnolia Hotshots will stop them?
