Our beloved Gin Kings are finally back after capturing the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup title. As for their first assignment, they have immediately took the victory against the Columbian Dyip, 96-84.
Columbian were resilient almost the entire game but Ginebra were able to figure out how to dismantle their zone defense. A blistering 25-9 spurt was unleashed by team NSD to break the 66-all deadlock.
Enough to give Columbian its another defeat in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup and their twenty straight overall in the same conference.
The second conference best import awardee, Justin Brownlee is never came short of being awesome in the basketball hard-court. Brownlee dropped 34 points, 20 rebounds, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks in their Friday’s victory.
Last conference’s Final MVP Scottie Thompson had another triple-double performance with his ten points, ten rebounds, eights assists and two swipes contributions.
Ginebra’s inside duo of Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter had a decent scoring output. Both players made a combined 14 points and 16 boards.
The rebounding and the assists department are the other categories where Ginebra won. They had 20 more rebounds and 23 more assists including the three dominating swats.
The uptempo combination of Jerramy King and Rashawn McCarthy tried to contain Ginebra but their effort still weren’t enough to stop their longest winning drought in the Governors’ Cup.
Also, their import Akeem Wright had a dismal performance in their last timeout. Wright was limited to only 12 points along with his nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.
