After their Gilas Pilipinas duty, both Japeth Aguilar and Scottie Thompson are back in Barangay Ginebra jersey.
Their return to Gin Kings squad is so important especially that several of their teammates are in sidelines due to injuries.
The once at the tail end of the standings, Blackwater is now sharing the top spot of the standings with the defending champs. Ginebra and Blackwater clash is scheduled tonight at 7:00 PM in the Big Dome.
The Gin Kings will make an attempt to keep their unblemished win-loss record as they head on to their back-to-back schedules.
“It’s been a long break, and we’re battling injuries and we’re playing a hot team in Blackwater followed by San Miguel Beer. It will be a tough weekend for us to get through,” said Ginebra head coach Tim Cone.
“Our injury list is long at this point — Greg Slaughter, Joe Devance, Sol Mercado, Jervy Cruz, Julian Sargent, Raymond Aguilar, Art dela Cruz. Thankfully, Japeth and Scottie came back to us healthy and ready to go,” Cone also said.
“We will lean on them to push us through these back-to-back games. When it gets tough, the tough gets going. We’ll see if we can live up to that,” he added.
Ginebra is currently perfect as they defeated the Columbian Dyip in their game 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup opener. Then followed by the then league-leading Alaska Aces and before PBA went to a two-week break, they secured another victory versus the NorthPort Batang Pier.
While the Elite catch up with Ginebra and snag their three-game winning streak by beating NorthPort last Wednesday, 113-111.
“It’s a good win providing us the momentum going to our game against Ginebra,” said Blackwater coach Bong Ramos.
“Ginebra is Ginebra. But we’ll come out and see what we can dish out against them,” Ramos added.
