Lots of heroes from the camp of Alaska Aces in order for them to have another daylight as they pushed their series to Game 4 against the San Miguel Beermen.
With the absence of their star players, coach Alex Compton found the needed spark deep in his bench. Players like Noy Baclao, Jake Pascual and Abel Galliguez delivered the goods for Alaska as they avoided a sweep, 125-104 at the Ynares Centre in Antipolo last Friday.
“I felt like it was a total team effort,” coach Alex Compton said. “Guys like Abel Galliguez came off the bench and gave us great energy. Jake Pascual hasn’t played this series, comes in and gave us great energy. I was really impressed.”
Beermen’s center June Mar Fajardo was clampped down behind the heavy defense thrown by Baclao and Pascual inside the low-post. The two big-men of the Aces had a combined 16 points and 12 rebounds output.
“Mahirap talaga bantayan si June Mar – June Mar is June Mar talaga,” Baclao said. “Di naman namin talaga macocontain si June Mar kundi malimit mo lang, kaya masaya na kami.”
While Alaska import Diamon Simpson and their leading scorer Vic Manuel was on the bench, Baclao and Pascual had an effective combo as they scored four points each in the final quarter.
“Kailangan din namin magtulungan either first five ka, second group o third group kasi we’re down 0-2 kaya do-or-die na kami every game,” said Pascual.
Apart from JV Casio, Ping Excisimiano and Simon Enciso, Abel Galliguez had a stellar evening last Friday night. Galliguez was on-fire from the three-point land and contributed seven points in the second quarter that gave Alaska a nine-point lead as they head to the third quarter.
“That’s the thing you work for. No one counts the hours and shots that you put in the gym every day,” Galliguez said. “When it comes to the moment, your name and number is called up, and those shots fall, that’s a great feeling.”
