The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters are looking to keep their image as the most dominant team of the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup tournament while the Gin Kings don’t want to switch off their winning streak that already reached to seven as both team will enter their best-of-five semi-finals series this evening at the Big Dome.

In their lone match during the elimination round, Rain or Shine has no problem beating Ginebra as they wrote a final blowout score of 108-89. At that time the Gin Kings still have Charles Garcia as their import who struggled to find his place in coach Tim Cone’s offensive strategy.

Also known as the team “Never-Say-Die”, Ginebra made an adjustment by recalling the services of Justin Brownlee who led them to two Governor’s Cup title then the reactivation of Joe Devance and Greg Slaughter is a big factor plus the arrival of Jeff Chan.

That winning momentum should carry on towards the semis as they collide with ROS at 7 PM in their series opener.

With that in minde, Coach Tim Cone knew exactly why the Elasto Painters is the alpha dog at the end of the elims.

“One, of course, is (Reggie) Johnson, a smart, mobile big-bodied big man and another is the play of James Yap. James has always been good at supplying what the team needs whether it being scoring or sacrifice,” said Cone.

“ROS is just such a savvy basketball team with guys like James, Gabe Norwood, Beau Belga and Chris Tiu, and because of that, they don’t beat themselves,” Cone also said.

Coach Caloy Garcia experience working as an assistant coach of Yeng Guiao helps him this tournament. He uses that Guiao’s trademark of unpredictable first five lineup, the opposing team will be forced to adjust with the player combination coach Caloy will throw in the game.
