Because of its excellent performance during the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup elimination round and finished at first, Rain or Shine got twice-to-beat advantage this quarterfinals.

However, the Elasto Painters needs to polish their game much more now that they’re now in the playoffs as they’ll be challenged by a physical and known as the fast paced team, the GlobalPort Batang Pier.

As most of us already aware, Rain or Shine needed only one win to advance to the next round.

But coach Caloy Garcia knew that this phase of the tournament is totally new and wanted his troops to be focused and not to be distracted with their carried incentive.

“We cannot think about the twice-to-beat advantage,” Garcia said.

Although they finished eight in the elims, the Batang Pier is not a team that got lucky to be part of the playoffs. During the initial stage of the second conference, they’re able to snag bigger fishes like the Meralco Bolts and the defending champs, the San Miguel Beermen.

Batang Pier’s coach Pido Jarencio most likely had a brainstorming nights thinking how to turn their twice-to-win disadvantage into a moral booster.

“We have to play consistent good basketball for 48 minutes, defensively and offensively, versus Rain or Shine,” said Jarencio.

In their lone meeting last May 20, Rain or Shine won the game 96-90 but it was a bloody and very physical game. Chris Tiu got hit by Malcolm White in his lips and resulted to several stitches while Maverick Ahanmisi, Raymond Almazan, Kelly Nabong (now with San Miguel Beermen) and again Malcolm White got ejected from the game due to commotion.
