It is the next level of the tournament. Probably that is the most popular keyword in the minds of PBA players and coaches each time playoffs arrives.
Both the KaTropa and the Beermen are most likely eager to start their match set this afternoon at 4:30 PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It will be a rematch of the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals where San Miguel dispatched Talk ‘N Text in Game 6. This time around, their series will be short as it will only span up to Game 3. The Beermen finished sixth in the elims while KaTropa got the third slot.
Both teams especially their head coaches are fully aware how crucial to take care Game 1 of the Best-of-Three series as they will have an oppurtunity on closing it out this coming Wednesday and proceed to the next round.
“If you win the first game, twice-to-beat ka na so it’s really important na makuha itong Game 1,” said SMB coach Leo Austria.
In their last year’s championship bout, SMB featured Charles Rhodes who is the eventual winner of the Best Import award while TNT still got its “JumboTron” but unfortunately still not 100% due to his injury (broken nose) he got during their game against Meralco.
In TNT’s last game, Joshua Smith was seen wearing a black mask to protect his face.
SMB coach Leo Austria is expecting that it will be another intense match especially that they’re now moving closer to the PBA biggest stage.
“This is entirely different,” he said.
“Kung before we’re just jockeying for position, eto pang semi-finals na and, hopefully, higit pa roon,” added Austria.
